Job Title: Infrastructure Virtualisation Engineer
Location: Corsham
Duration: Until end of March 2025
Rate: Up to £650-£750 per day based on relevant experience and via an approved umbrella company

Overview

The Infrastructure Virtualisation Engineering Service will support the technical team responsible for the design, development, documentation, building and validation of the core virtual estate which form the backbone of the NSoIT(D) Platform. The detailed responsibilities of the team include:

  • The design, development, building and validation of all virtualisation components which form part of the NSoIT(D) Platform.
  • Production and review of all levels of design artefacts.
  • Supporting wider NSoIT(D) system testing activities.
  • Working with Service Management to resolve issues.

Essential skills, qualifications, and experience

In order to deliver this service, it is essential that individuals have:

  • Demonstrable experience of at least 3 years within the industry with detailed knowledge and understanding, of the design, implementation, and troubleshooting of the following:
    • VMwareESXi
      • Distributed Virtual Switches
      • Distributed Resource Scheduler
      • Distributed Power Management
    • HPE SAN
      • HPE Alletra
      • iSCSI networks
      • Hybrid and All Flash storage configuraitons
    • VMwarevCenter
      • High Availability;
      • Clustering;
      • Cross-site failure and resiliency
    • VMwareNSX
      • Microsegmentation Firewalling
      • Cross Site VC NSX
    • VMware Horizon
      • AppVolumes.
      • AppStacks.
  • At least one professional Virtualisation certification that has been obtained within the last five years, i.e. VMware VCP (VMware vCenter Certified Professional) or similar.
  • Microsoft MCSE/MCSA qualification or similar in Server 2012R2/16/19/22
  • Exceptional communication skills with diverse and adverse audiences.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills to solve problems and propose new ideas.
  • Delivering against high pressure timelines and in complex organisations.
  • The ability to respond to changing project time scales and prioritise work accordingly.
  • Hold a valid Security Clearance (SC).
  • Competency in MS Office Suite.

Desirable skills, qualifications, and experience

In order to deliver this service, it is desirable that individuals have:

  • Experience of:
    • Working within the public sector, preferably Defence, and ideally with Defence Digital (formerly ISS).
    • Delivering accredited secure solutions within the UK Public Sector.
    • Delivering in Agile (SAFE4) and Waterfall projects.
    • Large Virtualisation infrastructure environments that operate at scale.
    • Microsoft server management tools including SCOM/MECM administration
    • Configuration of networks with knowledge of Cisco routers and switches.
  • Knowledge of the Atlassian toolset (JIRA and Confluence) to record and document work.
  • Cisco Network Administration experience or certification (CCNA/CCNP).
  • A firm grasp of service management tooling and ITIL knowledge/certification.
  • Experience in implementing secure architecture within a multi-tenanted environment.
  • Public Key Infrastructure
  • A Computer Science university-based education at Bachelors or Masters level.

Outputs

  • Build, configuration and support of virtualisation environment to support application server deployments.
  • Cross functional support for Windows Server team to assist with build and configuration of VMs and storage, including GPU deployment.
  • Support for other technical teams, including Windows Server, Networks, client device and automation teams.
  • Support for testing and integration
